Abstract

In “De-escalating Angry Caregivers: A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Novel Communication Curriculum for Pediatric Residents,”1 we developed, implemented, and evaluated the impact of a de-escalation curriculum on pediatric resident communication skills at a single residency program. Our study illustrated that de-escalation encounters are frequent in pediatric care. We presented validity evidence for our assessment tool. Our curriculum was well received, applicable to practice, and significantly improved residents’ perceptions of their performance, although there were no standardized patient rating improvements.
