Abstract

We report on an important advance for the vacuum ultraviolet and soft X-ray TGM beamline at Laboratório Nacional de Luz Síncrotron (LNLS). This beamline provides photons in the energy range 12–330 eV using three gratings. It is well known that TGMs deliver relatively high flux at these energies but harmonic contamination can be a serious problem. Of special interest for the users is the range between 12 and 21 eV covered by one of the gratings for studies of outer and inner valence ionization processes in gases as well as solids. Here, we report a solution to the harmonic contamination problems based on a noble gas phase filter combined with thin metal foil barriers.
