Abstract

Recombinant baculoviruses are widely used to express heterologous proteins. They are particularly useful for the high-level expression of eukaryotic proteins with fastidious co- or post-translational processing requirements. The recent publication of the Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AcNPV) genome will greatly increase the sophistication of baculovirus molecular biology. Recently, this has been accompanied by the first applications of virion display technology to AcNPV, increased use of promoters other than that of the polyhedrin gene, and insight into the interplay between the authenticity of glycosylation of recombinant proteins and their functionality.
