Abstract
Pertactin is a nonfimbrial membrane-associated protein that is detectable on all virulent Bordetella pertussis.It belongs to the autotransporter protein family.As an important antigen component of acellular pertussis vaccine, pertactin can induce protective antibody.Despite the high vaccination coverage rates among children, the incidence of pertussis has increased recently in some countries.One of the important reasons is that the antigenic divergence between circulating strains and vaccine strain has lowered the protective efficacy of pertussis vaccine.This review summarizes the molecular structure, biological characteristics, epidemiology and purification technology of pertactin.
