Abstract

Background Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience,accompanied with existing or potential tissue damage.Pain assessment is a critical first step in pain management characterized by providing patients a quantitative or qualitative results through reliable and valid pain assessment tool.Because unified method of pain assessment is unavailable,it is difficult to make objective and quantitative assessment.To some extent,therefore,pain assessment is inadequate for clinicians to solve pain problem. Objective Taking pain problem seriously and using pain assessment tool skillfully are the key to relieve pain.Content This review presented an overview on the objective pain assessment methods.Due to large individual difference of pain and various factors affecting the perception of pain,it is difficult to calculate and compare the severity of pain objectively and accurately.Moreover,given that pain brings patients injury both physically and psychologically,it is urgent to seek for more effective methods of pain assessment and pain management tools.The present documents show that there are a variety of pain assessment tools for different patients. Trend The objective pain assessment is the trend for the quantization of pain which can guide clinicians to more accurately and effectively treat pain problem. Key words: Pain; Sensory; Assessment
