Abstract

The prevention, control and, for some, the ultimate eradication of zoonoses in human beings is the goal of the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The principal papers and summaries of discussions presented at a seminar in Vienna form the content of the monograph. It deals with bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis, leptospirosis, Q fever and rabies from an administrative point of view and presents useful summaries on recognized laboratory diagnostic methods. The well-documented chapter on the epidemiology, diagnosis and prophylaxis deserves general recognition on account of its balanced appraisal of the available knowledge. Every one of the papers is informative, and their content must be considered the latest authoritative information on the the five most important zoonoses. As a source of reference and quick orientation it is equally useful to the physician, public health worker and veterinarian.
