Abstract
The tympanic membrane (TM) is the gateway to the middle earof the sound waves and converts it into mechanical vibrations of the ossicular chain. Measurement of the TM vibration caused by sound using laser Doppler vibrometry (LDV) has been many years. However, single-point measurements did not provide information on the complex motion of the entire TM surface. The measurement of a large number of points on the TMcan provide additional verification of the human ear finite element model. Multi-point or scanning laser Doppler vibration measurement techniques, time-averaged or stroboscopic holographic measurement techniques, and optical coherence tomography scan the entire TM surface. These experimental measurements are valuable for understanding mechanisms of wave propagation across the TM and its vibration caused by sound. Key words: Tympanic Membrane; Vibration; measurement
