Abstract

Introduction The year 1960 ends a decade of adventure and revelation for those working in this field, and otology continues to be one of the most blessed fields of science. An extensive review of the literature printed in 1960 covering otosclerosis shows that the scientists in this field have been stimulated to produce and apply thoughts pertaining to: (1) histopathology of otosclerosis; (2) the pathogenesis of otosclerosis; (3) the radiographic findings in otosclerosis; (4) otosclerosis in areas other than the oval window; (5) the diagnostic problems produced by otosclerosis; (6) the surgical treatment of otosclerosis, and (7) the complications produced by surgical intervention. For organizational purposes these topics will be used in the analysis of progress in otosclerosis for 1960.
