Abstract

Perhaps to a greater degree than its predecessors, the present volume suffers from the limitation that it is useful only to multilingual readers. Of 285 pages of text, 189 are in German. These include (1) an exhaustive review by J. Barraquer and J. Rutillan on progress in cataract surgery during the past ten years and (2) a review of fluorescein angiography of the ocular fundus (H. Baurmann). In French there are 44 pages, including (3) the ocular signs of 13-trisomy (J. Cordier, A. Reny, and N. Kahn) and (4) the clinicopathological manifestations of ocular intraepithelial epithelioma (J. Scouras). In a final chapter of 52 pages in English, R. Sevin (Lausanne) discusses diabetic retinopathy with regard to new pathogenic concepts.
