Abstract
This book is based on the proceedings of the 1972 symposium of the International Ophthalmology Microsurgery Study Group. The text is composed of many direct quotes from participants in the symposium. Although such comments provide an interesting dialogue for the listening audience, the book suffers because much of the text was not specifically prepared for publication. The volume begins with a brief survey of technical developments in operating microscopes, microinstruments, and suture materials. A chapter is devoted to the pathophysiology of anterior uveal surgery. The remaining six chapters deal with various aspects of surgery performed on the iris and ciliary body. A presentation of the uses and techniques of iridectomy demonstrates the variety of opinions regarding this seemingly limited subject. The relatively new use of iris sutures is a controversial area that is thoughtfully discussed by a number of participants. A brief chapter is included on the pathology and treatment
