Abstract

THE YEARS 1966 and 1967 have been abundant with reports which may be conveniently classified into five broad groups: (1) Studies concerning the mitotic patterns of cancers. (2) Procedures for excision of the mitotic lesion. (3) Reconstructive procedures after excision. (4) Combinations of radiotherapy and surgery against the metastatic pattern. (5) Combinations of chemicals against the biological pattern. These concepts are reported by various individuals with specific cases, individual methods, or separate surveys, but, when combined as a group review, indicate a trend which is noteworthy in an attempt to define an approach which can eventually eliminate massive mutilating excision of the cancer, and replace this with well-founded reconstructive procedures in combination with local excision and systemic control with chemicals and irradiation.
