Abstract

Volume 1 of Advances in Obstetrics and Gynecology , edited by Stewart L. and Cyril C. Marcus, might well be used as a textbook for any young obstetrician-gynecologist who is beginning a career in academic medicine; it would also be hard to imagine a better source of review material for board examinations than this volume. The range is nearly as wide as the medical horizon of our time; only the psychosocial aspects of obstetrics and gynecology have been omitted. The rest is all here: ultrasound, immunologic problems, bacteremic shock, surgery for cancer of the cervix. But this book is not superficial; materials are treated in satisfactory depth. The roster of contributors constitutes a real all-star cast. Naturally, there is considerable variation in the writing style from chapter to chapter, but this is only a small disadvantage.
