Abstract

Cathodic protection within ballasted cargo compartments in tankers has now been employed for almost a decade. During this period over 1,000 tankers have been so protected. The results have been widely published and varying degrees of success reported. Spectacular results obtained under specific conditions perpetuated its widespread application in tankers. One particular advance, taking advantage of the constructional members of the ship, is described here. This system has recently been patented.
