Abstract

Medical device manufacturers have made substantial improvements toward safer blood collection products. Customers and manufacturers of blood collection devices have emphasized prevention of injury and reduction of bloodborne pathogen exposure. Blood collection involves the use of many types of equipment and devices supplied by several manufacturers. This article discusses advances in and safety features of blood collection devices, as well as differences among evaluated tube types for products sold in the United States.
