Abstract
ABSTRACT Several advanced waterjet systems have recently been developed for Marine Corps applications. In developing propulsor technology for the Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) program, a compact system was designed to meet specified thrust, speed, and envelope requirements of a baseline planing vehicle configuration. A second propulsor design was completed to meet requirements of a revised vehicle. Concurrently, design studies of an outboard motor‐fitted pumpjet concept were undertaken for the MARS system development program, and modified components were designed and manufactured as part of an effort to improve performance of the commercially‐developed pumpjet units. Optimization procedures, detailed designs, and available performance data are discussed for each of these applications. In addition, new waterjet design concepts aiming toward improved thrust and efficiency for planing craft applications are discussed.
