Abstract

This paper presents several advanced techniques for the design of reflectarray antennas for far field applications, including the crosspolar optimization, which is a very recent research topic for this type of antenna. After a brief introduction to reflectarray antennas, the Phase-Only Synthesis (POS) technique for far field is presented, which is the most widely used optimization technique for reflectarrays. More recently, some techniques for the crosspolar optimization have been introduced which rely on different strategies to reduce the crosspolar far field component. Finally, several reflectarray designs obtained with POS are compared with the designs obtained with the new technique for the crosspolar reduction, showing an important reduction in the crosspolarization.
