Abstract

Real time pipeline simulations support safe and economical pipeline operations. A set of partial differential equations describing the pipeline hydraulic is solved on-line using the method of characteristics. An open loop parameter identification is used to estimate the hydraulic parameter under best operating conditions. Practical applications concerning leak detection and setpoint control established at some great european pipelines are presented and future aspects are discussed. La simulation du pipeline est réalisée en temps réel par un programme de modèle hydrodynamique. Le programme utilise la méthode des characteristiques. Les résultats de l'implémentation de ce modèle, p.e. détection de fuite et régulation automatique de pression, sont présentés.
