Abstract

In this contribution we present two recent advanced applications of our Fourier-based modal methods, specifically an aperiodic rigorous coupled wave analysis and a special bi-directional Fourier mode expansion propagation based technique, developed and applied in two cooperating research laboratories, to photonic /plasmonic waveguiding problems with novel physics and a number of interesting characteristics, namely (1) fully 3D subwavelength grating waveguides based on subwavelength segments of high-index material (silicon) surrounded with a lower-index superstrate material (such as SiO2, SU-8, or air), and (2) 2D planar magnetooptic nonreciprocal one-way waveguides, based on a semiconductor InSb/dielectric/metal interfaces.
