Abstract

Design proposals for a pure oxygen based treatment system based on BOC's VITOX process are described for Anglian Water's Southend-on-Sea sewage treatment works which will be required to be uprated from primary to secondary treatment under the requirements of the E.C. Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive. There are very tight space constraints on site. The requirements of the E.C. Bathing Water Directive have to be met too and a potential ozone disinfection system is described. Results of large-scale trials are presented.
