Abstract

Air Canada's fuel budget for 1982 is $645 million, and represents 30% of the airline's annual operating expense. No single airline expense item has escalated faster than fuel price. Combine this with inflation, high interest rates, general recession and the pressure of de‐regulation, to see that we are guiding the airline industry through a grave financial crisis—and some airlines will probably not survive.
