Abstract

An evidence-based practice (EBP) project to improve the safety of adult in-patients who received opioids. Opioid Induced Respiratory Depression (OIRD) unfortunately continue to be a serious problem for patients receiving opioids, despite close monitoring of respiratory and sedation status. Capnography monitoring has been identified as an additional tool to help identify or prevent the need for naloxone (Narcan), higher level of care, or rapid response/code blue team involvement. “The Iowa Model Revised: Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Excellence in Health Care” and “Practice Change & Implementation Strategies: Iowa Implementation for Sustainability Framework” were used.
