The design and test results of an L-band MPM for space applications are presented in this paper. The MPM consists of a linearized channel amplifier (LCAMP) developed for L-band TWTs and an EPC. The LCAMP consists of a channel amplifier, a linearizer and an extra channel with an auxiliary input which serves as a power monitoring and power controlling for the payload MTSAT1 R and MTSAT2. The LCAMP covers the complete L-Band (1.2 GHz to 1.7 GHz) and consists of microwave integrated circuits (MICs). The MIC-linearizer utilizes a diode bridge which improves the gain compression of the connected TWTA at saturation by at least 5 dB, reduces its phase shift to be less than +/-10 degrees and considerably reduces its intermodulation products and output noise. The LCAMP has a gain of 25 dB and overdrive protection up to 17 dB over the nominal input power. An advanced technology, which has been applied in the LCAMP equipment assembly, showing its benefits in terms of weight, size, cost and reliability, is also presented in this paper. The LCAMP can be integrated into the electronic power conditioner (EPC) of the travelling wave tube enhancing the mounting area on the platform and improving the EMC characteristics.
