Abstract

In this paper, the advanced hybrid battery thermal management for electric vehicles (EVs) is proposed with coupling of active liquid cooling and passive phase change material (PCM) based cooling. The parametric study involving different PCM melting point, charging rate and cooling strategy are investigated. The battery module temperatures under PCM cooling alone are observed as 34.8, 38.6 and 43.6°C for charge rate of 2C, 4C and 6C, respectively. The battery module temperature is 38.4°C for PCM cooling whereas battery module temperature is 31.8°C for hybrid cooling.
