Abstract
Abstract The amount of fuel that must flow in an aircraft engine is an important parameter that must be considered while designing the fuel control unit in an aircraft engine. The amount of fuel supplied must be optimised as per the speed requirement of aircraft. The basic aim of this project is to solve the major problem of measurement of fuel flow rate in an aero engine. This project fulfils the basic requirement of fuel optimization in a revolutionary manner. The prime hardware assistance is derived from 8-bit microcontroller namely INTEL 8051. Though there have been several measuring devices and transducers used earlier for this purpose, all of them were analog in nature. Here, accuracy suffered a major setback. This project employs a certain hardware which is completely digital, based on microcontroller which results in a high level of accuracy. The ac input is applied to the microcontroller. The microcontroller counts the number of cycles in 1 sec and this becomes the frequency of the input signal. This frequency is then displayed. From the knowledge of this frequency, the fuel flow rate is computed. This constitutes the basic idea of this project.
