Advanced Electromaterials: New Challenges

Abstract

Over the last couple of decades, many new functional materials have been developed and rapidly attracted the attention of both academia and industries, primarily due to the huge potential impact they might have on human civilization. The human needs have always been a prerequisite for any new invention or development. As a result, materials engineers have been forced to develop new materials or improve existing ones. The International Conference on Advanced Electromaterials (ICAE) was first organized in 2011 to bring together from all over the world the new important findings in materials, processes, and device or system design techniques in one place to provide an active forum among prestigious scholars, scientists, engineers, and young graduate students. Conference attendees gather important information and grasp global research trends on a wide variety of topics in electromaterials. There is no doubt “advanced electromaterials” will continuously play a key role in future electronics industries as a new growth engine, and the research and development of core materials will also become a very important issue in modern information technology industries. Following the success of the first to third conferences, the 4th International Conference on Advanced Electromaterials (ICAE 2017) was held in Jeju, Korea from November 21–24, 2017. It turned out to be a huge success with more than 1,218 papers and 1,374 attendees from 30 countries. ICAE is very focused on the development of materials and exchanges between researchers. The objective of hosting ICAE is to develop various symposium themes and scopes and determine the developments in the material industries. Various materials are used in the device and application fields, depending on the performance required. The development of technology plays an important role in the development of materials. The development of materials requires much time and investment. However, material technology is important without considering other ideas. We would like to thank materials researchers, and we appreciate the chance to publish the research results as a special edition. The studies published here were presented at ICAE 2017 and represented the important materials performances that were introduced in the 18 symposia. Finally, ICAE will continuously develop new ideas on materials and provide an off-line forum for active debates and exchange of new ideas. We expect that ICAE 2019 will also be beneficial to all attendees. We pray for the continued success of the researchers in the global materials communities. Among the presentations at the conference, 24 papers were selected through a peer-review process. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the conference committee members and participants, and the referees who reviewed the submitted papers rigorously.
