Bearings are advancing rapidly, with new designs and materials and developments in sealing and lubrication technology coming on stream. As a result, bearings now play a significant role in the ubiquitous aim of reducing the whole life costs of pumps. With a focus on developments from The Barden Corporation (UK) Ltd, Robin Kyte considers the impact of bearings on pump design, maintenance costs, pump availability and process times.
