Abstract

Coronary artery bypass grafting(CABG) is a safe and highly effective method for treatment of ischemic heart disease. The autologous saphenous vein grafts are the most common types of conduits used in CABG. But the restenosis of vein grafts which result from thrombosis, neointimal hyperplasia and atherosclerosis has severely affected the venous grafts patency, and effective pharmacological interventions for vein grafts failure have not emerged. The advances in molecular biology offers novel approaches for the management of vein graft restenosis, and gene therapy is the hot spot currently. This article reviews the progress in gene therapy for vein grafts restenosis, regarding therapeutic target gene, methods of gene delivery and gene vector. Key words: Coronary artery bypass graft; Vein graft; Restenosis; Gene vector
