Abstract

The multi drug resistance 1 (MDR1) gene product P-glycoprotein (P-gp)is a member of ATP-binding cassette transports.P-gp is recognized to be important in drug disposition and response since it express in certain tissues and the broad substrate specificity.Recently,a number of singlenucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in MDR1 have been identified. However, the reported effects of MDR1 SNP on P-gp expression and transport activity have been inconsistent and,in some case, conflicting. In this review SNP in MDR1 and relation to P-gp tissue expression and respiratory diseases are discussed. Key words: Multi drug resistance 1 gene; P-glycoprotein; Single nucleotide polymorphism; C3435T
