Abstract

A continuing education course on adult development and aging for social workers is described. The three-day course is designed to prepare Adult Services and Adult Protective Services workers who have little or no formal training in gerontology to work effectively with older clients. Course objectives and content, consistent with adult learner principles and social work education recommendations of the 1995 White House Conference on Aging, are discussed. This model course is presented to stimulate ideas for the further development of continuing education offerings for social workers to meet the needs of an aging client population.
