Abstract

Treatments for the adult acquired flat foot deformity (AAFD) continue to evolve and challenge us. Current conservative and surgical treatment options are quite variable, with little consensus on the most effective intervention. In this issue of Foot and Ankle Clinics we have tried to give the treating practitioner an update of AAFD along with the countless options of treatments available. Authors put forward different opinions on their treatment preferences, and thus mirror the current literature. A thorough biomechanical review and a review of the physical exam and imaging modalities are provided. Discussions of the classification system, controversies of treatment, and treatment failures are detailed. New insights on conservative management are provided. Surgical procedures close out this issue, including tendon procedures, osteotomies, and arthrodeses. I would like to thank all of the authors for their generous contributions. Their work provides us with a stirring anthology of opinions and current trends in the treatment of AAFD.
