Abstract

In 0.1mol/L potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP, pH4.0) supporting electrolyte containing 5.0×10-4mol/L phenylthiourea (PTU), a sensitive adsorptive complex wave of Cd(II) -PTU is found by using single-sweep polarography. The peak potential of the wave is -0.75V(vs. SCE). The peak current is directly proportional to the concentration of Cd(II) over the range of 5.0×10-8-1.0×10-5mol/L, the detection limit is 1.0×10-8mol/L. The method has been applied successfully for the trace cadmium determination in plating waste water.
