Abstract

The specialized poly(cyclotriphosphazene-co-4,4′-sulfonyldiphenol) (PZS) microspheres were prepared via a reliable and simple precipitation polymerization method and used adsorbent for the removal of thorium (Th) from aqueous solution. The PZS microspheres were characterized by FT-IR, XPS and SEM. The variables influencing the adsorption capacity were investigated. Adsorption experimental data showed thorium adsorption was equilibrium at time 60 min, pH 3.5, adsorbent dosage 1.0 g L−1 and initial concentration 25 mg L−1, and the adsorption capacity reached to 17.30 mg g−1. The experimental data followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and equilibrium data fit the Langmuir isotherm model very well.
