Abstract

A three-parameter isotherm equation is applisd for describing adsorption of organic compounds From dilute aqueous solutions on microporous activated carbons. This isotherm equation corresponds to the gamma distribution function that characterizes structural heterogeneity of the micropores. Parameters of this isotherm equation permit a quantitative characterization of the structural and energetic heterogeneities of activated carbons. Adsorption isotherms of phenol and benzoic acid from dilute aqueous solutions on the Filtrasarb-400 activatsd carbon are used to illustrate the method of characterization of carbonaceous adsorbents on the basis of the liquid-solid adsorption data.
