Abstract
JUTE FIBERS were grafted with acrylonitrile (AN) induced by direct gamma irradiation. All the factors which affect the grafting process were investigated. The grafting at the optimum conditions was followed by amidoximation reaction. The conversion of AN into acrylamidoxime was studied by fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The treated Jute fibres were used as an adsorbent substrate for heavy metal ions such as Pb
