Abstract
1. The high cation density in the narrow cavities of clinoptilolite determines its high adsorption capacity with respect to small polar molecules. 2. The clinoptilolite structure has sites where strongly coordination-unsaturated exchange cations are localized. NH3 molecules react with such cations by the ion-dipole mechanism, with an energy of 23 kcal/ mole.
