Abstract
Ethene and propene adsorption on Ru(0001) has been studied using reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS). Low temperature (∼ 100 K) adsorption of ethene is presumed to produce a di-σ adsorbed species but this was not detected. Low temperature adsorption of propene produced a physisorbed layer but at 130 K a weak spectrum attributed to a di-σ adsorbed species was observed. Ethene and propene both converted to alkylidyne species at higher temperature and propylidyne decomposed via the ethylidyne species.
