Abstract

In all chromatographic procedures, the optimum conditions for separation are yielded through mutual harmonisation of the stationary and mobile phases. With TLC, the most suitable adsorbent (stationary phase) can be found easily and quickly. A whole spectrum of tested inorganic and organic adsorbents is available today, specifically for TLC. They differ from the usual materials for column chromatography in their fine-grained structure (Fig. 3). The thin layers prepared from these materials and their surprising separating ability, are a major feature of TLC.
