Abstract
Individual steroid hormone metabolities were measured after intravenous infusion of α-corticotropin, a synthetic tricosapeptide and commercial corticotropin in human subjects. When given in adequate dosage, each stimulated the adrenal to produce large amounts of hormones. The fate of exogenous hydrocortisone-4-C14 was examined at the height of response to each of the pure peptides and approximations of the hydrocortisone output were made. The conclusion was drawn that each product acted as a typical “corticotropin.”
