Abstract

The main objective of this research project was to identify factors promoting the adoption of m-health and determine usability challenges in the existing m-health applications in Kenya. Specifically the study aimed at i) establishing the factors promoting adoption of M-health and, ii) determining the usability challenges in m-health applications in Kenya. Consequently an M-health prototype application was developed to address the usability challenges identified. The M-health prototype application called “Uzazi Poa” was designed to complement maternal healthcare institutions by providing antenatal and post natal healthcare information. This paper provides background information on M-health after which factors promoting its adoption and usability challenges are identified. It then presents the “Uzazi Poa” mobile application that seeks to address earlier identified challenges and concludes by enumerating results and findings of the research project.
