Abstract

Today’s calf is tomorrow’s stock therefore the care of calves is very important. Scientific calf managemental practices embraced different aspects such as, colostrum feeding & general feeding , general care & management and health management practices etc have utmost importance in higher production and low mortality. The present study was undertaken to find out the extent of adoption of scientific calf managemental practices and to identify the factors that influence adoption of the practices among livestock owners. Farmers from Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh and Surguja district of Chhattisgarh were selected for the study and personal interview was employed to collect data on different aspects of scientific calf managemental practices. The study revealed that majority of livestock owners i.e. 79% adopted scientific calf management practices at partial level, whereas 19% livestock owners adopted at low level and only 2% farmers adopted the practices at high level. socio-economic variables viz. education, land holding, herd size, milk production, income, interpersonal contact and mass media exposure had positive and significant correlation with adoption of practices.
