Abstract

The study investigated adolescents' perception of HIV/AIDS and their attitude to preventive programs. Subjects were 500 students (220 males and 280 females), ages 13 to 16 years, drawn from 10 secondary schools in Calabar, Nigeria. Data were obtained using a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Data analysis indicates that significant gender differences exist in terms of perception of HIV/AIDS in favor of the males. Significant positive relationship also was found between adolescents' perception of HIV/AIDS and attitude toward HIV/AIDS preventive programs.
