Abstract

Globally over 1.9 billion adults are obese (Body Mass Index, BMI > 30) including over 164 million in the USA, UK, Caribbean alone. Adolescent obesity is growing at an even faster rate and this has yielded Hypertension and Type II Diabetes in children. CASE A 14-year-old female, Caucasian patient presented with Class III, Severe Obesity (Body Mass Index, BMI = 40.1). After reviewing her medical history (Thyroid and HbA1c values tested), a physical examination with body composition testing was completed. She was then tested for sub-acute food allergies (250 foods tested) using the ALCAT Leukocyte Reaction test. METHODS The patient showed significant reactions to 33 foods which were eliminated from her diet. She was also taught to eat or snack more often (< 2 cups, 5/day), and shown how to perform brief, high intensity Aerobic-surge exercises for 2-minutes, 5/day. RESULTS Significant changes were seen after only 90 days in BMI, waist circumference, and total fat mass. Her 6-month results were even greater and maintained for another six months: (-16 kg, -20% BMI, -15 cm waist, and -20% fat mass). Exercise compliance was less than 50% but, food allergen elimination showed 98% compliance and was effective for obesity reduction in this adolescent case.
