Abstract

This special issue of the Journal of Early Adolescence is devoted to articles which explore family relations during early adolescence. The topics examined in these 10 articles include parent and peer relations, intrafamily conflict, the association between puberty and family relations, the relationship between family behavior and adolescent cognitive, self-concept, and identity development, resiliency and vulnerability, coping strategies, the effects of divorce on adolescents, and single-parent families. In this introduction the main points of each article are briefly summarized, and strengths and limitations are pointed out.
