Abstract

Alternative energy is considered as a search for new energy sources, in particular, non-traditional, providing independence from fuel energy. The reduction of Ukraine’s energy dependence on traditional fuel resources is only possible through the development and use of its own alternative energy, which uses local resources as bioenergy as a fuel or does not require a fuel component at all (solar, wind and small hydropower). It is shown that the EU is one of the leaders in the implementation of alternative energy and renewable energy sources and initiates the creation of many organizations that finance projects related to the use of alternative energy. Among them there isInternational Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).The aim of the publication is to show the importance of using alternative energy in Ukraine and in theEU, administrative methods and economic mechanisms for regulating natural resources, as well as the stages of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union. Thus, one of the most important challenges facing the countries today is the search for such energy sources that will reduce the use of traditional energy sources and the dependence of these countries on imports. Currently, the question of energy independence for Ukraine is quite relevant. The country’s potential makes it possible to efficiently use renewable energy sources, primarily solar and wind power, as well as to extract biogas to provide energy. The current Energy Strategy of Ukraine for the period up to 2035 is in general in line with the Ukraine’s accumulative obligations towards the EU on renewable energy sources and aims to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 25% in general by 2035.
