Abstract
The article is devoted to the coverage of the essence and features of illegal use of the name and signs of belonging to the National Police of Ukraine as a basis for administrative liability. It is established that despite the spread of of-fenses under Article 184-3 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, there is no court decisions in such cases. Thus, large amounts of penalties remain declarative. Possible reasons for the unsatisfactory state of the mechanism of bringing to administrative liability in cases of illegal use of the name and signs of belonging to the National Police of Ukraine have been identified. It was emphasized that the signs of belonging to the National Police of Ukraine include: police symbols, uniforms of police officers, special ranks, departmental awards, a special badge and a police officer’s ID card. Attention is drawn to the fact that the actions of persons who look like police officers, but in fact are not them, can cause a wide public response, because the population may not know who is in front of them. As a result, the forma-tion of a positive image of the police can be significantly damaged. It is concluded that the current situation around the illegal use of the name and signs of belonging to the National Police of Ukraine needs to be corrected.
