Abstract

ObjectiveTo explore the role of ADMA in gastric cancer.MethodsThe specimens of 115 gastric cancer patients were analyzed by ELISA and survival analysis. Functional assays were used to assess the effects of ADMA on gastric cancer cells. Experiments were conducted to detect the signaling pathway induced by ADMA in GC.ResultsGastric cancer patients with high ADMA levels had poor prognosis and low survival rate. Furthermore, high level of ADMA did not affect the proliferation while promoted the migration and invasion of gastric cancer cell. Moreover, ADMA enhanced the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Importantly, ADMA positively regulated β-catenin expression in GC and promoted GC migration and invasion via Wnt/β-catenin pathway.ConclusionsADMA regulates gastric cancer cell migration and invasion via Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and which may be applied to clinical practice as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker.

Highlights

  • Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract

  • The central observation of this report is that the level of serum ADMA is higher in GC samples and its high level is closely related to depth of tumor invasion, clinical stage, poor differentiation and the poor clinical outcome

  • Serum ADMA level was elevated in patients with GC and high concentration of AMDA in GC cells enhanced cell migration and invasion in vitro via Wnt/β-catenin pathway

Summary

Introduction

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract. According to the National Central Cancer Registry of China, there were about 679,000 new cases of gastric cancer in China in 2015, and about 498,000 deaths, with the mortality rate of GC being the second highest among all malignant tumors. The early detection rate of gastric cancer in China is low [1]. Some patients have lymph node metastasis at the first diagnosis, and even distant organ metastasis, which leads to the loss of surgical cure and affects the prognosis and survival rate of patients [2]. Despite the advancement of modern medical technology, the.
