Abstract

Our article, “Use of chromatic adjectives and chromatic epithets in The Wonderful Grove story” examines the way in which qualifying adjectives reflect Mihail Sadoveanu’s subjectivity in this literary piece. We aim at identifying, classifying and analyzing the most frequently used qualifying adjectives in this story, namely the adjectives of colour. The epithet is the most significant stylistic figure of the adjective of colour. The chromatic adjectival semantics are wide and varied in The Wonderful Grove story. The chromatic epithet was used for descriptive and visual purposes; in this case, wiht special artistic value. Mihail Sadoveanu has a mature writing style, creating his own literary universe, avoiding exaggerations, by balancing well and calculating the use of chromatic adjectives and epithets.
