Abstract

Summary form only given. Pulse compression is a well-known technique to obtain short pulse duration and broad spectrum. Adiabatic soliton compression (ASC) is highly sensitive to the noise of input pulses but has been shown to be efficient and robust against noise. Here we report the first ASC in a cascaded Raman/erbium fiber amplifier in which 8-ps pulses from a dispersion-compensated DFB laser were simultaneously compressed and amplified by over 60-fold.
