Abstract An analysis is presented for the propagation of charged cosmic rays away from a source in a relatively smooth galactic magnetic field. Tbe expected intensity of the resulting narrow-angle anisotropy is related to the particle flux produced by the source. The probable number of such anisotropies is derived, based on the lifetime of cosmic rays and the number of sources in the Galaxy. The agreement with experimental evidence and future possibilities of the model are discussed.
