Abstract

In adiabatic flow of He II, the motion of the normal fluid components is induced by the action of the superfluid component through vortices. The flow state of 3He, added and confined in the system, was studied with the method of pulsed NMR applied at the position of the flow path of 1 mm i.d., where a field gradient is present. The results show that the flow state is almost Hagen-Poiseuille type in contrast with the highly turbulent state of the superfluid component. The method also directly gives the average flow velocity of 3He atoms in the flow path. The results show the existence of the characteristic velocity ν c2 predicted by the new-type mutual friction force and found in our preceding works.
